“When the cool evening breezes were blowing, the man and his wife heard the Lord God walking about in the garden. So they hid from the Lord God among the trees. Then the Lord God called to the man, ‘Where are you?’ He replied, ‘I heard you walking in the garden, so I hid. I was afraid because I was naked.’”
This passage of scripture reveals to me one of the aspects of fasting. Twice it says that they heard the Lord walking in the garden. Fasting will definitely increase your level of spiritual sensitivity. You will be able to detect spiritual activity. You will be more perceptive when you read the Bible. You will get a better “feel” for what is happening around you. Your antennae will be up. My prayer after reading this passage this morning was, “Lord, help me this year to hear the sound of you walking.” I want to know when He is near. I want to be more aware of His presence than I have ever been. It is also important to note where this story happened. The Lord was heard walking in the garden. The garden is a quiet place of reflection. It is so important that we find a “garden,” a quiet place during this season of fasting and prayer so that we can hear what we need to hear and develop our sensitivity to spiritual things. Find your garden and then take time to listen. You just might be amazed at what you will hear.
