“From then on Jesus began to preach, ‘Repent of your sins and turn to God, for the Kingdom of Heaven is near.’”
This happened after the 40 days of fasting and the temptation in the wilderness. Today’s reading in verse 17 and beyond highlights what can happen after the fast is concluded.
First, there is a power to preach or declare. There will be an added emphasis to your words. What comes out of your mouth will have an unction to it.
Second, there is clarity. In verses 18-22, Jesus begins to choose His disciples. Luke suggests that He spent all night prior to picking those He would pour into. A result of fasting will be a clarity to make decisions.
Third, there is a release of power in your life. In verses 23-35 Jesus healed those with sickness and disease and cast out demons. Fasting produces power, supernatural power.
Whenever you conclude your fast in the beginning of this year expect these three things to happen: added emphasis and power to your words; clarity in decision making; and supernatural power to set people free.
